What's the definition of a keto diet?
The keto diet is a strict, very low carb diet that generally caps carb intake at around 30g of carbs per day. This is a huge decrease from the standard Western diet that includes approx 250g carbs! The keto diet is a high fat, moderate protein, low carbohydrate diet that forces the body to burn fat, a state known as “ketosis”. Staying in ketosis is a very personal thing with a number of variables such as an individual’s physique and activity levels. The only way to know for sure if you’re in ketosis (and to what degree) is to measure ketone bodies.
